I am a fan of the Western girl group and it's really sad to me how underappreciated they are. Boys World's break-up earlier this year was so sad, and Citizen Queen has lost 2 members over the years. Flo is breaking through ( thank goodness), but on the whole, the music industry is brutal to girl groups. I hope more groups find their audience.
Its not their fault heavy choreography coupled with singing is hard and its the companies choice if you want to watch their vocals they displayed it you just pick and chose which one to watch. They give their all when they perform not everything has to be the same!!!
A shame coz Sophia and Lara got the pipes to go live but they mostly just do the ‘chorus’ of the songs. Megan has decent vocals as well, and when they did theKaraoke challenge in one of those Korean songs, we can see that all of them: Manon, Yoonchae, even the designated “dancer”, Daniella can actually sing. I get why they need to use backtrack to protect the health of their voices -but I would think at least in the radio songs, they should be able to sing live.
Okay I thought I was crazy cause I had this same thought when I watched their Kelly Clarkson “Touch” Performance. That was the first time I had ever noticed how the audio didn’t sit right in my ear. I totally agree with you!
yeah i thought it was odd for that but i assumed it was because they were performing in a windy location. their team should have just moved them inside so they could’ve sang like the other times before
R&B girl groups focus on vocals first and dancing second, KPop girl groups it's vice versa Oh also; I think Katseye is leaning into the performer archetype of artist, like Britney Spears. Not the vocalist type like Ariana Grande. You made some valid points though!
katseye can literally sing and have prove that. it’s not their fault that their staff is making them use backing tracks. and it’s actually common for backing tracks to be put on when you’re literally dancing and singing at the same time….
Hybe and Geffen has always promoted Dream Academy as a program to form a group that will work like a K-pop group and are trained with a K-pop system. I don’t think they ever intended to make them “more western” or “more eastern” depending on where they’re performing. They are meant to enter a U.S. market with a K-pop foundation. That being said, I’ve noticed Geffen doesn’t really do much for them and that they are being heavily managed by Hybe. I will really only see them on a couple of American radios or interviews and they seem to be almost never performing in the U.S., despite being based in Los Angeles. I also feel like racism is a huge reason as to why the group seems to promote in Asia more. Any association with K-pop or Asian people is almost automatically seen as a joke, which is why K-pop artists and Asian artists in general have a hard time breaking into the U.S. music industry. I’ve noticed people will label Katseye as K-pop because of their connections with Hybe, despite the fact that they aren’t meant to be a K-pop group and have many members who aren’t Korean or even Asian. Even now, groups like BTS and Blackpink are not taken seriously even with their incredible achievements. That K-pop label is stuck with them and that causes a lot of discrimination bias. I almost wonder if that’s why Geffen doesn’t invest as much time or money into them, or maybe even sees them as a quick cash grab. Also, the girls can most definitely sing. If you look through their videos from even before they joined Dream Academy, they’ve got talent. But I feel that the issue is many Korean labels love to turn up a backtrack because they hate any sign of even the slightest imperfection. This has been a huge problem with 4th generation K-pop groups (debuted 2019-present) as companies expect for more and more perfection (which is just impossible). Before 2016ish, most groups sang live and got a lot of bashing if they didn’t.
I agree with a lot of your points. To be honest it waa difficult to know what the expectations were from the group, since they are a hybrid of an American and Korean company. I agree there’s a huge stigma with Kpop I think it’s because of it’s hyper focus on idol music/groups. I’m guessing if the balladeers like Ailee or K.Will were pushed to the forefront people would have more respect for those korean artists. I also peeped how Geffen is using the girls as a cash cow. Like sometimes I feel like it’s a 1 sided partnership. They’d know how to break them into an American market and they’re MIA
Dani these girls are just getting noticed adm people are ready to knock them down? I already saw comments " their company is weird" please younwould love to have you fave woth all the hybe benefits
this is my first video so i don’t know if you’re into kpop or more so katseye’s korean label, HYBE. the company is well known for pushing out artists that can’t sing but have clearly been trained to dance well, like lesserafim who performed in coachella (no backtracks allowed) and got massive hate because their voices aren’t up to par, even with korean audiences. singing standards in kpop have declined massively but if you want kpop dances with good singing i recommend aespa!
Aespa realey sing live tho they good but once they actually sing the dance part goes down and makes sense how do excpected to sing while dancing insane choreography
I used to be into kpop during second gen but gradually grew out of it. I still keep tabs on it though. But it’s getting harder to take ot seriously with so many minors debuting. *I do remember people dragging so many groups encore stages. I did feel bad for the groups but my god, some of the worst vocals I’ve ever heard were from those stages
I think it because they still lowkey kinda adjacent kpop and this is where kpop is now you hardly ever see a group do live vocals even if they’re know for their vocals aespa wereinf touring and mostly lip sync
I think you forget that Enhyphen is also signed with HYBE like Katseye but they do sing live. And if that's not enough look at XG, doing the most difficult choreography compared to every other girl group out now and having live vocals at the same time. It's why those two groups are booked for Coachella next year because they are reliable live performers, Katseye is not and neither have they ever stood out as a group in terms of talent.
@@goodfella1401 But Enhyphen and Katseye have different teams within the company tho. The comparison would make sense if they had the same team behind them. And XG? They are from a different company entirely. You should give the group some grace, they are rookies, the other groups you mentioned have been in the game for a longer time no wonder they will be going to Coachella before them. And I beg to differ Katseye is a group WITH talent, I don't think no normal person with no ounce of talent could do what they do.
i saw xg live a month ago, yes they were singing live but most of the time when they sang a hard vocal song, they weren’t dancing. and the songs that they were doing choreo it was mostly rap. singing and dancing is very hard to do at once. i’m not saying it isn’t possible, but a lot of kpop groups either sing with backing tracks or they lipsync to a prerecorded live audio of them singing.
I think they’re heavily leaning into k pop methods to take off the group. Asia gives them a solid market and good footing. A lot of groups in the west are not getting the traction they deserve. Take a look at Flo, I love their vocals, performances and songs but they’re very underrated! I think once Katseye are able to break into the western market they will rebrand towards a more western style. In addition a lot of them look up to Pussycats dolls who were a western dancing group with one lead singer. You can still be a hit in the west with performing at the forefront and vocals coming in second.
that goes with a lot of idol groups sadly its prerecorded backing track or just a backingtrack a lot of them do is they have to just dance well and look pretty. idle are an excellent live singing group albiet with the use of prerecorded backing track but i really enjoy idles performances. itzy i love them but i cannot tell if theyre singing live either or if theyre too busy trying to look pretty for the camera. ateez sing live so i never have to worry about them. it just seem to vary even if the choreo isnt difficult they try to mask the groups potential flaws its weird asf. i dont hate the group or members more so just the style of these performances or the set up of them doesnt make sense to me to not have them sing live. im still confused generally by full on foreign idol groups cause to me no offence to them but their songs are so similar to what people my age wouldve already listened to in the 00s. same with dear alice. we already had that one direction era. i think they need to do it properly if they want to wow people cause these days people will be looking at them like a hawk for mistakes
some of these foreign idol groups wouldve suited the western scene better as well imho theyre trying to hard to be polished on the outside but like blackpink they just fail in many areas if they cant sing live at all then at least have them attend lessons or people will lose interest.
@@Popfilia hybe, tthey are primarily a kpop label and most of the time they don't allow their idols to sing live on stage which is a terrible idea because the girls can actually sing.
This is unfortunately a company problem.I do think they are the one who decide when they sing live and how.
But you’d think they’ll post more casual singing on their socials. Like what’s the harm?
